Jor-El is a fictional character appearing in DC Comics, primarily as the biological father of Superman. He first appeared in *Action Comics* #1 in 1938.
He was a brilliant scientist on the planet Krypton, predicting its impending destruction due to the planet's unstable core. He attempted to warn the Kryptonian Science Council, but his warnings were dismissed.
Realizing the imminent doom, Jor-El constructed a rocket to send his infant son, Kal-El, to Earth. This act of desperation saved Kal-El from Krypton's destruction, allowing him to grow up and become Superman.
Although Krypton was destroyed and Jor-El perished with it, his legacy lives on through his son. He often appears in flashbacks or through holographic recordings, providing guidance and wisdom to Superman.
